Canada has unveiled its Immigration Levels Plan for 2024-2026, indicating that it will maintain its current immigration targets. In 2024, Canada aims to admit 485,000 new immigrants, while in 2025 and 2026, the target is set at 500,000 immigrants each year. The plan remains consistent with the previously announced Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025. It’s noteworthy that the Canadian government seeks to stabilize immigration levels at 500,000 from 2026 onward, allowing for successful integration while supporting the labor market.

Categories and Programs
The breakdown of immigration targets by class includes economic, family, and humanitarian admissions. The economic class will comprise about 58% of the annual target in 2024, rising to 60% by 2026. The family class will account for 24% of admissions in 2024, increasing to 24% in 2026. Humanitarian admissions will be around 19% of all admissions in 2024 and 16% by 2026.

Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The Express Entry target is set at 110,700 permanent resident admissions in 2024, increasing to 117,500 immigrants in each of 2025 and 2026. The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) target will rise to 120,000 immigrants in 2025 and 2026.

A New Strategy for the Future
This announcement comes on the heels of Canada revealing a new strategy for its immigration system, aimed at enhancing the immigration experience for newcomers, aligning immigration with labor market needs, and developing a comprehensive growth plan. These changes reflect Canada’s ongoing commitment to supporting its economy and addressing labor shortages.
